Elm Cottage is a hidden away gem but very easy to get to. We have frequently left London after work on Friday and been in the Butt and Oyster two hours later. You don’t need a car to get here nor to have a great holiday.

By train; from Liverpool Street station it’s just under and hour to Manningtree station and just over an hour to Ipswich station. It’s about a 15 minute taxi ride from both stations. From Manningtree a taxi needs to be booked, there’s a taxi rank at Ipswich. There are also buses from Ipswich station to the centre of Chelmondiston.

By car; The Shotley peninsula lies very close to the A12 and A14. We are about an hour from the M25/A12 junction and about an hour from Cambridge on the A14.

By air; Stansted airport is an hour away. There is a regular bus service from Stansted to Ipswich.

Elm Cottage is 100 metres along a path from Church Road in the centre of Chelmondiston. It is only accessible on foot or cycle. If you arrive by car you park it on Church Road and find the path with the Elm Cottage sign post. We will happily help you get your luggage to the cottage. It’s worth the effort, once you are settled it is peaceful and safe. Few cottages give you convenience of being in the centre of the village whilst never hearing a car door slam, let alone the traffic.
